Care Guide
caring for your new mattress
Your mattress is an important investment, take proper care to benefit from ongoing comfort, support and durability. With the right foundation and a few simple maintenance habits, you will enjoy the benefits for many years to come. The following guidelines set out general care principles for your new mattress.
Register Your Warranty
Registering your warranty is an important step in protecting your purchase. It can help streamline any future enquiries and ensures your product details are recorded if support is ever required. Your registration card will arrive with your mattress and can also be completed directly on the manufacturer’s website. Details will be included on the warranty card. Be sure to keep your proof of purchase in a safe place.
Air Out
Once unpacked, allow your mattress to air out before use. This helps any new product scent to dissipate and allows the materials to breathe. Ongoing ventilation is also important, so airing the bed occasionally by leaving bed linen turned back for several hours can help moisture evaporate naturally.
Settling Period
It can take several weeks for a new mattress to adjust and contour to your body shape, weight and sleeping position. Some settling of the comfort layers and light body impressions are normal as the mattress responds to regular use.
Strong Foundation
Your mattress should be used on a strong, supportive base suitable for its construction. A proper foundation helps provide the comfort, support and durability the mattress is designed to deliver. If using a slatted base, ensure it is strong and well supported. Refer to the individual manufacturer for minimum slat requirements. If using a solid platform base, adequate ventilation is important. Using an unsuitable or worn base may affect performance and longevity.
Rotate Regularly
To promote more even wear, rotate your mattress regularly from end to end. As a general guide, rotate every two weeks during the first few months, then every one to three months thereafter depending on the product and usage. Individual brands vary, and full details will be included on the warranty card. Regular rotation helps the mattress settle more evenly and may reduce uneven body impressions over time. Unless otherwise stated, mattresses should be rotated, not flipped.
Clean & Protect
A good quality mattress protector is strongly recommended to help keep your mattress clean, fresh and hygienic. Vacuum occasionally using low suction or a soft brush attachment. If spills occur, attend to them promptly using a clean damp cloth and allow the mattress to dry thoroughly before reuse. Avoid soaking the mattress, scrubbing harshly, or using detergents, solvents or chemical cleaners, as these may damage the fabric or internal components. Do not bend, fold, stand on or jump on the mattress, and take care when moving or storing it to avoid unnecessary damage.
